Hi, I'm Niki Turner and I collect poems, short stories, parables, quotes and wise thoughts as well as vegetarian recipes and anything relating to handmade crafts. I am particularly keen on recycling ideas for crafting.
I started off posting to Yahoo groups in 2005 and now want to transfer all my posts from there to this website.
I hope you enjoy browsing through the many posts.

Kindness

Kindness

A couple of week ago, I broke a bone in my foot and so I had to hobble around with a cane for
several days. What was pleasant about this otherwise painful experience was the way I was
treated by everyone. People opened doors for me, helped me into my car, and gave me their seats in
waiting rooms.

All of this unexpected kind treatment tempted me to keep using the cane longer that I had to. My
spirit blossomed under this kind public treatment. And yet, the moment I laid aside this
symbol of my weakness, people returned to their old pushing and jostling selves.

It occurred to me that everybody has some sort of broken bone somewhere, even if it cannot be seen.
No physical bones, of course, but emotional ones… which are just as frail and tender.

There have been many days when I needed more consideration than the days when I carried the
cane… when my mind was troubled and my emotions upset, but no one knew or seemed to care. That
little broken bone was a very minor injury, but it had opened a floodgate of human sympathy.

It could be a fruitful experience for us to take a day off once in a while, and treat every person
we meet as if his/her foot were bandaged.

Accept Me

ACCEPT ME

Accept me as I am,
I have no guarantee.
A claim to perfection I have not.
Perfect I cannot be.

I, like you, am human.
Prone to make mistakes.
Failure is not a character flaw,
just a part of the human makeup.

I live, I laugh and I also learn.
My knowledge is incomplete.
I am searching all the time,
in waking hours as well as sleep.

I have a long road to travel,
as well as you do.
We learn our lessons on the way.
Wisdom we shall accrue.

So please accept me
as I am,
because I am just me.
No one like me in the world.
That is my only guarantee.

This is how I feel,
I have a heart, open it and see.
Please take care.
That’s all I am, just me.

For life to be fullest, sweetest and rewarding

For life to be fullest, sweetest and rewarding:
-Do more than move; improve.
-Do more than get; give.
-Do more than regret; repent.
-Do more than look; see.
-Do more than sympathize; help.
-Do more than attend church; worship.
-Do more than have children; rear them.
-Do more than build a house; make a home.
-Do more than breathe; LIVE
-Do more than live; LOVE

Live today so that you will make life better for those around you.
You will end up making your life better too.

Lord, You teach that it is in giving that I receive.
May I always have a generous spirit. Amen.

Let us seek God’s guidance

LET US SEEK GOD’S GUIDANCE
By Helen Steiner Rice

As the threatening “Clouds of Chaos”
Gather in man’s muddled mind;
While he searches for an answer
He alone can never find;
May God turn our vision skyward
So that we can see above …
The gathering clouds of darkness,
And behold God’s brightening love.

For today we’re facing problems
Man alone can never solve,
For it takes much more than genius
To determine and resolve,
The conditions that confront us
All around on every side,
Daily mounting in intensity
Like the restless, rising tide.

But we’ll find new Strength and Wisdom
If instead of proud resistance …
We humbly call upon the Lord
And seek Divine Assistance;
For the spirit can unravel
Many tangled, knotted threads
That defy the skill and power
Of the world’s best hands and heads.

For the plans of growth and progress
Of which we all have dreamed,
Cannot survive materially
Unless the spirit is redeemed.
So as another Year dawns,
Let us seek the Lord in prayer
And place our future hopes and plans
Securely in God’s care.

Ways to be………….

Ways to BE !

1. Be courteous towards, and interested in, every person you meet. We
become more spiritual by treating every person as a somebody.

2. Reverse unworthy thoughts when they come. By refusing to look down
on any person, or even to be critical, we raise our own self-esteem.

3. Release the need to be “right.” There are always times when we are
sure of our position. But truth needs no defenders, since in the long
run it is self-evident and self-proving.

4. Let others save face as often as possible. Even when you know others
are victims of sick pride, do not show them up by proving them wrong on
specific matters. If an error must be corrected, do it gently and
discreetly so others are not humiliated.

5. Always recognize a personal need for help: “Of myself, I can do
nothing, it’s God who does the work.”

6. Give credit freely, even at your own expense. We can never be
permanently harmed by this practice, because our own will always come
back to us.

7. Drop practices that are related to showing off or to obtaining
recognition for its own sake.

8. Make amends continuously, even when the other person is partly to
blame for the trouble. And be quick to apologize to children and
subordinates as we would to people of power and prominence.
